October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – a time that shines a light on symptoms, early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Beyond the physical, many women quietly carry fears or anxieties that aren’t spoken about as often. Acknowledging them is always the first step towards finding calm and support.

For some, this shows up as fear of needles, scans, or certain medical procedures. These phobias can feel overwhelming and isolating – and they are so much more common that you may realise. If this feels familiar to you then please know there is gentle holistic support available.

Perhaps your heart races before a blood test. Maybe you dread the thought of lying in an MRI scanner. Perhaps you feel anxious about a port insertion or cannula. Maybe you feel worry regarding a radiotherapy treatment and keeping still for the required length of time.

These thoughts and responses are your body’s way of protecting you.  Still, they can make treatment feel so much harder than it needs to be. Sometimes they can even lead to delays in important care.

You deserve to feel in control, empowered and confident through a treatment journey, don’t you?

How Hypnotherapy Can Help

Hypnotherapy offers a gentle, compassionate, simple way to let go of these fears. It works with the part of the mind where phobia’s live – the unconscious mind – to help release old fear patterns and create new empowered feelings of calm and safety.

Alongside guided relaxation, calming imagery and supportive suggestions hypnotherapy can help you to:

  • Feel calmer during injections, blood tests and medical procedures

  • Approach scans with a greater sense of ease

  • Stay grounded and supported though radiotherapy, chemotherapy or other targeted treatments

A Nurturing Whole Person Approach

In my practice, I often weave hypnotherapy together with gentle breathwork, nervous system regulation, holistic therapies and somatic tools. Always at your own pace, always in a way that is personalised to you.

The changes can be beautiful to witness:

  • Someone who once dreaded blood tests, now walks in with calm and confidence

  • A woman who couldn’t face an MRI scan now visualises herself surrounded by peace, as she inhales a calming essential oil blend tailored to her

  • A client who once feared a port insertion now feels grounded and steady in her body

Each small shift is the evidence, and a reminder that fear can soften, and calm is possible.

Why This Matters for Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

This month reminds us not only of the importance of breast awareness, screening and treatment – also of the emotions that hide away beneath the surface – behind every appointment, every scan, every blood test, every infusion.

Cancer care is about caring for the ‘whole’ person – mind, body and soul. Hypnotherapy is one way of bridging all three, bringing calm and ease.

Support Below the Surface – A Gentle Message of Possibility

If you live with needle phobia – or any other fear around medical procedures – please remember this – you are not alone. These fears are real, valid, and above all they can change. There is no reason for these to limit you.

You deserve to feel calm, supported, safe and empowered alongside a cancer diagnosis.

If you’d like support – whether in person or virtually – I’d be honoured to walk your path alongside you. You can get in touch at hello@simonegrove.com or visit my website www.simonegrove.com
