NLP and Time Line Therapy®

Recently I discovered the powerfully transformational techniques of NLP and Time Line Therapy®. I’ve been incredibly excited to share these with you for some time now – after I experienced my own transformation through working with Time Line Therapy® in particular. Following my experience with these therapies I knew immediately that I wanted to become a qualified practitioner myself, to share what I’d learned with others. They perfectly complement my work as a specialist physiotherapist and holistic practitioner, as many of our physical ailments begin in the mind – making it the perfect place to start.
Over the next few months I’ll be sharing blogs specifically focused on certain areas NLP and Time Line Therapy® can help with. But for today, I wanted to introduce both treatments and explain what they are, how they work and how they can help you to break through the barriers holding you back and live your life to the full.
What is Neuro Linguistic Programming?
The definition of NLP is broken down logically into three components.
Neuro is referring to our neurology, our nervous system and the way in which we process the world. Our experience is processed via five senses – visual, auditory, kinesthetic (feeling), olfactory (smell) and gustatory (taste). All of these senses are active all of the time and they are providing our cognitive processing system with the information it requires in order to make sense of our world. So the ‘neurology’ part of the name is referring to our 5 senses.
Linguistic refers to language, through which our neural representations are coded, ordered and given meaning. This is the words that we use, the labels that we put on things to make them real. Our language is formed through how we represent the world in our minds – pictures, sounds, feelings, smells, tastes and self -talk. Once we put a label, or put language to a word it becomes part of our reality. Our words are not describing our reality, our words are creating our reality. All problems and challenges are made up of words. Every problem is created by language therefore the solution to the problem is generated by language. This is one of the layers of how NLP works.
Programming refers to our ability to discover and utilise the programmes that we run (our communication to ourselves and others) in our neurological systems to achieve our specific and desired outcomes. It refers to the way in which we structure our internal representations of what our reality is, the words we put to it, sounds and feelings in our mind and how all that comes together in a neurological approach to behaviour to our model of reality. How we perceive the world around us.
The wonderful thing about learning NLP is that you can get to grips with how your mind is producing your behaviours, and how you are creating your model of the world.
What is Timeline Therapy®?
Time Line Therapy® works with the unconscious mind, focusing on the absence of negative emotions, limiting beliefs and limiting decisions accumulated from the past. It removes all negative emotions including anger, sadness, fear, hurt, guilt and works well with anxiety and phobias through tackling limiting beliefs and limiting decisions.
Many people are unaware of the limiting beliefs and decisions that operate within their unconscious mind – and how much these impact upon their life as a whole. To overcome situations that frighten or worry us, we need to look at what it is that triggers the fear holding us back.
Our minds are trained for many years to think, feel and ‘be’ a certain way – many of us know this as ‘running on autopilot’. We’re unaware of the programs running in the background that keep us the way we are. Time Line Therapy® efficiently allows us to implement changes without lengthy stints of talking therapies, dragging up old traumas and past events or reading hundreds of self-help books. Most patients comment on how remarkably easy and simple it is and how many of the changes they experience are almost instant.
Why is NLP and Time Line Therapy® life-changing?
NLP and Time Line Therapy® are life-changing because they go straight to the root of the problem and remove those obstacles that are holding us back. Some people know why they do what they do, but don’t feel able to change, even though they want to. Others have no idea why – but again, they want to change. This is where these therapies come into their own, by working with the unconscious mind and unpicking what’s happening unconsciously without having to think about consciously.
All learning, behaviour and change takes place at the unconscious level – this is how NLP and Time Line Therapy® work, by working with the unconscious mind, integrating the conscious and unconscious mind to work as a whole. This is also wonderful for trauma survivors or really anyone who doesn’t wish to dig up and trawl through their past, as is often necessary during traditional therapies.
